New Partnership! Great Barrier Reef Foundation

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on Earth and one of the richest and most complex natural ecosystems in the world. It’s home to thousands of species of marine life including fish, dolphins and six of the world’s seven species of marine turtle.

Climate change is the biggest threat to the future of our Reef. Its impacts, which include rising water temperatures, ocean acidification and more severe weather events, are making it difficult for the Reef to recover and adapt fast enough to survive

The facts are clear – coral reefs and their communities are on the front line of climate change and we know this is the critical decade in which to act with urgency.

By choosing to participate in a Go Green Fun Run or Plant-A-Difference fundraiser, your coral planting contributes to the conservation of this irreplaceable icon, and will help protect the beautiful marine life that calls it home.

Introducing our new Plant-A-Difference fundraiser!

Have all the fun of a fundraiser while helping save Australia’s Great Barrier Reef! Australian Fundraising’s new Go Green environmental fundraising programs are the most exciting and profitable way to raise funds for your school or group while making a difference to our environment.

For every $20 raised by your school or group, our brand-new Go Green charity partner, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, will plant a coral and support further research into how we can restore our precious Reef for future generations. Right now, the Foundation is part of the world’s largest and most ambitious effort to protect, restore and adapt coral reefs at unprecedented scales. It’s aiming to plant 10 million corals on the Great Barrier Reef by 2030.

Coral IVF is a restoration method used to plant coral. During annual coral spawning, millions of tiny coral eggs and sperm from healthy reefs are collected in specially-designed floating pools. The coral larvae are reared in the pools, then the ‘babies’ are delivered onto damaged reefs so they can be restored.

Another way the Foundation is working to restore the Reef is planting coral fragments. Broken coral fragments are collected and grown in underwater nurseries, then planted onto damaged areas of the Reef to restore and repopulate them.

Best of all – your donation is entirely covered by your program, meaning you do not sacrifice any profit whatsoever!
