At the heart of every meaningful initiative lies the potential to transform lives and communities. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce our latest initiative, the Care For A Cause prize option.

The Care For A Cause Program is a unique approach that redefines the concept of incentive prizes. Instead of students redeeming their fundraising credit towards incentive prizes, they can make a meaningful impact to the environment and communities around Australia by allocating their funds to support two amazing charitable causes and two nature-positive organisations. It’s a game-changer for fundraising, the environment, and communities across Australia.

Choosing to support five amazing causes instead of pursuing incentive prizes reflects a deep commitment to purpose and community. It’s driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact to communities and the environment throughout Australia. Growing on the success of our Go Green fundraisers, Australian Fundraising now offers an exclusive opportunity to support four remarkable organisations and create a lasting impact with our School Run 4 Fun and Glowtastic Disco Party fundraisers.

Best of all, you can either choose to do this option on behalf of the whole school, or let families decide whether they want prizes or to donate independently when you choose the Traditional Prize option.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

• Help children to succeed at school through The Smith Family’s student2student reading program
• Reduce food waste and help feed vulnerable people in need with OzHarvest
• You can choose to support The Great Barrier Reef Foundation who will plant one coral to help save our Reef and its marine life for future generations, or you can support the work being done to help protect the turtles.
• Make a difference to one of our country’s most valuable yet devastated ecosystems when you plant trees with Carbon Neutral.

How can your school get involved?

It’s easy to get involved. You can either choose for the whole school to participate when you select a Care For A Cause fundraiser, or if you select the Traditional Incentive Prizes, students and parents can make their own decision to donate.

Our brand new Care For A Cause program builds on the hugely successful Go Green fundraiser we have been offering since 2020. In that time, schools and groups have helped to plant over 79,000 trees and 68,000 coral.

Which Charities and Organisations Can You Support?

We’re excited about what we can do to help not only our environmental charities (Carbon Neutral and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation), but two other community organisations that have partnered with Australian Fundraising in 2024 – The Smith Family and OzHarvest.

Through our School Run 4 Fun and Glowtastic Disco Party fundraisers, participants can create a lasting and positive impact. Following you can read how your donations will help these worthy causes:

Great Barrier Reef Foundation

Plant a Coral

We all love our Great Barrier Reef, but it’s coming under increasing pressure to survive. Climate change is the biggest threat to our Reef. Its impacts, which includes rising water temperatures, ocean acidification and more severe weather events, make it difficult for the Reef to recover and adapt fast enough to survive.

For every $20 a participant raises, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation will plant one coral to help restore our Reef and its marine life for future generations.

Over 60,000 baby corals have been planted on the Great Barrier Reef and our goal is to plant over 100,00 corals by the end of 2025.

Protect a Turtle

Turtles on the Great Barrier Reef are endangered due in part to the impacts of climate change. Rising sea levels are flooding nests and drowning hatchlings, while the loss of seagrass meadows is threatening their food supply.

For every $20 raised, participants can earn a Turtle Token which goes towards the protection of the Great Barrier Reef’s turtles.

A Turtle Token will:

• Help to grow seagrass – turtles’ favourite and primary food source
• Protect turtle reef homes so they can have a safe place to shelter, breed and feed
• Restore islands to improve nesting sites and baby turtle survival

The Smith Family

In Australia, 1 in 6 children and young people are experiencing educational inequality caused by poverty. The Smith Family is Australia’s largest children’s education charity who aim to create a world where every child has the opportunity to change their future. The Smith Family believes that education is one of the most powerful change agents. By supporting The Smith Family, you can help children in need to keep up and stay engaged in their learning so that they can thrive now and into their futures.

For every $20 you raise, a Book Token will be donated to The Smith Family to buy books for the student2student program. These books form part of an identical book pack used to help children improve their reading skills so that they can succeed at school.

By fundraising for a Book Token, students will:

• Help disadvantaged Australian children get the most out of their education and create a better future for themselves.
• Support The Smith Family’s student2student program, providing a student and their buddy with an identical book pack from The Smith Family.

OzHarvest

Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality surplus food from more than 3,000 food donors across the country. Every week over 250 tonnes of food is saved from going to landfills and delivered to 1,900 charities, helping make a positive impact to the lives of people in need in Australia. Since its inception, OzHarvest has delivered more than 240 million meals!

For every $20 raised, OzHarvest will deliver six meals to people in need. In 2023, 3.7 million households struggled to put food on the table, with the rising cost of living being the biggest contributing factor to this [Statistics from Foodbank Hunger Report 2023].

Carbon Neutral

Make a difference to one of our country’s most valuable yet devastated ecosystems.

For over two decades, Carbon Neutral has been working with thousands of organisations and individuals from across the globe to reduce their impact on the planet.

For every $20 each participant fundraises, Carbon Neutral plants one tree or shrub in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, one of only 36 biodiversity hotspots worldwide. Hotspots are irreplaceable and preserving them secures our global biodiversity.

Since our partnership began in 2021, our partner schools and organisations have assisted in planting over 75,000 trees and shrubs in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.
