10 000 trees planted!

Environmentally friendly fundraising is helping to restore one of Australia’s most sensitive environments. Through our Plant-A-Difference and Go Green Colour Explosion School Fun Run, students have planted more than 10 000 native trees and shrubs in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. Way to go!

When Australian Fundraising partnered with Carbon Neutral to plant 10 000 trees in 2020, we thought it was an ambitious goal. However, schools and communities have gone above and beyond to do their part for the Earth.

How does environmentally friendly fundraising work?

How Does Environmentally Friendly Fundraising Work?

Planting 10 000 trees is not only a huge effort to help the environment, it represents more than $150 000 fundraised by your communities. Environmentally friendly fundraising is good for the environment, and your community!

For every $15 raised with our Plant-A-Difference or Go Green Colour Explosion School Fun Run, we plant one tree or shrub in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Hotspot. It’s that easy! We do all the hard work, and you keep the profit!

What is a biodiversity hotspot?

A biodiversity hotspot is one of the most important environments for our Earth. It has a massive number of special plants and animals that are only found in those areas – no where else!

Unfortunately, biodiversity hotspots have also lost more than 70% of their habitats due to human destruction. Our most valuable environments are being destroyed by land clearing, back burning, pollution or intentional human interference.

Human destruction has devastating impacts for our Earth.

Why do we plant trees?

Native trees and shrubs play very important roles in our environments! Native trees and shrubs help lots of animals, insects and other plants survive together. Just a few of the important things trees and shrubs do:

  • Reduce carbon in the atmosphere and replenish oxygen that humans and animals need to breathe.
  • Provide homes and habitats for lots of animals, big and small!
  • Roots help make the ground more stable, and less prone to drying out, cracking or eroding.

Did You Know?

There are only 2 biodiversity hotspots in Australia, and 35 in the whole world! The more we look after our environment, the fewer hotspots will need our special love and care.

Carbon Neutral plants your trees in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Hotspot in Western Australia. The goal is to restore and replenish an area that was devastated by human destruction. We can protect our most vulnerable areas from going extinct and being lost for good!

The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Hotspot

Spanning a massive 12 000 hectares, the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor was ravaged by agricultural land clearing in the early 1900’s. Unfortunately, 90% of the wheatbelt was completely destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of species went extinct locally or regionally.

The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Hotspot is the focus of environmentally friendly fundraising

The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor is one of two biodiversity hotspots in Australia.

However, hope isn’t lost! Since being identified as an area in desperate need of recovery and restoration, 12 nature reserves have protected the area from further damage. Together with regeneration initiatives like Carbon Neutral, the area is gradually recovering to it’s former glory.
