2,012 Book Tokens Donated to The Smith Family!
Children’s Book Week is here, and we have fantastic news to share! Schools and groups that selected the Care for A Cause prize option have donated a total of 2,012 Book Tokens to The Smith Family’s student2student program up to today in 2024!
Each Book Token donated helps purchase books for the student2student program, supporting students in need.
What’s the Impact?
These 2,012 Book Tokens are making a big difference! By fundraising for these Book Tokens, students:
- Help disadvantaged Australian children get the most out of their education and create a better future for themselves.
- Support The Smith Family’s student2student program, providing a student and their buddy with an identical book pack from The Smith Family.
One participant shared, “It was good reading to someone that I didn’t know because they didn’t judge me when I made mistakes.”
Why It Matters
There is a notable reading gap between students from different backgrounds. In primary school, the reading gap between low socio-economic students and high socio-economic students is equivalent to almost 3 years of schooling. Evidence shows that one of the best ways to support students with reading difficulties is through peer support. The student2student program has helped children improve their reading skills, build confidence in school, and enhance their overall wellbeing.
