Celebrating 25 Years of Fundraising Innovation

Australian Fundraising celebrates 25 years

In 1999, a garage in Mt Ommaney became the unlikely birthplace of a revolution in fundraising for schools and groups alike. What started as our family’s response to our own fundraising challenges has blossomed into a national success story that has helped Australian schools and community groups raise an extraordinary $185 million in the last 25 years.

Australian Fundraising‘s journey began when our founders, Bill and Silvia Gaydon, recognised a critical gap in the fundraising landscape. With firsthand experience and a strong commitment to supporting communities, they embarked on a mission to transform the way schools raise funds. Those humble beginnings – one employee, one garage, and boundless determination – laid the foundation for what would become Australia’s leading fundraising partner for schools and community groups.

Our company’s evolution mirrors the changing landscape of fundraising itself, moving from traditional approaches to innovative, engaging solutions that capture the imagination of entire communities. A watershed moment came in 2006 with the introduction of our Billy G’s Gourmet Cookie Dough, a program that would redefine fundraising success. This innovative approach didn’t just raise funds; it created lasting memories and brought communities together through the joy of baking.

But it was the launch of the Colour Explosion Fun Run in 2017 that truly showcased our ability to revolutionise the industry. This vibrant, high-energy fundraiser transformed traditional fun runs into unforgettable experiences that students eagerly anticipate each year. The program’s success led to our expanded suite of themed runs, including the Colour Splatacular and Slime Spectacular Fun Runs, each designed to maximise both enjoyment and fundraising potential.

In an era where digital transformation is crucial, we have remained at the forefront of innovation. Our custom-built, cybersafe online platforms have not only streamlined the fundraising process but have also introduced gamification elements that boost engagement and results.

The true measure of Australian Fundraising’s impact lies not just in the impressive numbers – though $185 million raised is certainly noteworthy – but in the countless stories of schools and communities transformed through successful fundraising campaigns. When the COVID-19 pandemic threatened traditional fundraising methods, our company’s resilience shone through. We rapidly adapted programs to ensure schools could continue raising vital funds while maintaining safety protocols.

Looking ahead, our commitment to innovation remains unwavering. Our Care For A Cause initiative showcases that modern fundraising must align with broader community values and environmental consciousness.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, the garage in Mt Ommaney stands as a reminder that great achievements often have humble beginnings. Through strong dedication to our clients’ success and a constant drive to innovate, we have not just built a business – we have created a team of experts that continue to empower school communities across Australia.

From that first day in 1999 to today’s tech-driven solutions, one thing remains constant: Australian Fundraising’s commitment to transforming fundraising from a necessary task into an engaging, community-building experience that brings people together while delivering outstanding results.
